MIT is a not-for-profit association which addresses the defense and the protection of rights of transgender people, of their health and of their dignity. The most important services offered by the association are:

- A dedicated medical clinic, made up of two psychotherapists, one endocrinologist and one member of social services which assist and follow all of those that turn to the clinic. This service is funded by Regione Emilia Romagna and is an integral part of the Bologna public health clinics (Azienda USL Città di Bologna).

- Job Desk for the defense of the rights at the workplace, job search, consultancy and legal assistance, sickness and disability. The Desk is run in collaboration with the Rights Centre of one of the major trade unions (CGIL)

- Safe Prostitution, a service geared towards prevention and information among transgender people who work on the street.

- Prison assistance, a support and assistance service run through specialised social workers, for trans gender inmates of the Bologna prison.

- Trans Helpline, a direct telephone counseling, support, help, and assistance through an operator present at the MIT headquarters

- Documentation centre for the collection, production and dissemination of documents (such as books, magazines, videos, etc.) on transsexuality.

Moreover, MIT is also part of a web of projects and services at the urban, regional, national and international level and participates as partner to various projects relevant for its objectives.

MIT is part of the following networks: EUROPAP (European intervention project/AIDS prevention for prostitutes), TAMPEP (Transnational AIDS/STD prevention among migrant prostitutes in Europe), Harry Benjamin International Gender Dysphoria Association,European Network of Sex Workers, Italian Transgender coordination “Sylvia Rivera”,

European Forum of LGBT associations, ONIG (National monitoring centre on gender identity).
